The Popular 90's Tech Toy "Tamagotchi" is Back!

People that have a love for the ‘90s are going to be thrilled with the latest news in tech. If you’re a fan of tech toys and gadgets, then it’s time to go back in time to when Tamagotchi was the latest crazy. This is a digital pet that you would be in charge of taking care of. That includes petting, feeding, and praising the little digital pet. Well, if you have fond memories of these things, you’re going to find that it’s back, and it’s starting to get a lot of attention from sites like Mashable and Gizmodo. This is not a knockoff or anything like that, mind you, it’s a full, licensed, re-release, and it’s getting a lot of attention in Japan.

Bandai Goes Back To The Well

Back in 1997, Bandai scored a huge hit with the release of their tech toy. Tamagotchi first hit in 1996 in Japan, but it didn’t really get any fanfare worldwide until a year later, when both children and adults caught onto the sensational toy. Taking the idea of the pet rock and turning into a fully realized digital pet, became the thing of dreams. Within a short span of time, Bandai was able to pull 76 million sales, and became a worldwide addiction. It got so popular, that some teachers were outright banning their students from using the digital pet.

Not Just One Pet

If you’re looking to get your hands on a new Tamagotchi, you’re going to have a hard time. Not because of sales, but because there are six re-releases. That’s right, there are six pets that are getting released, and picking just one will be a bit tough. How will you decide from the original six? Or will you get them all?

The announcement and release of this gadget was actually slated for January, but news coming out of Japan is that sales are brisk, and many outside of Japan are starting to look into this. That means that Bandai may agree to release it in the United States and Europe.

An Obsession Turns Fun

If you had fun times with Tamagotchi toys when you were a kid, then you may fall into the nostalgia hole that many fall into. Fans are going to want to pick up all six, and obsess over petting, feeding, and caring for their pet. The ‘90s are back with a vengeance, and this latest news is definitely something that is going to be huge, if Bandai does in fact release the toys in the United States.

For now, you may only be able to get these in Japan. Amazon Japan has them, and you can import them across the world if you’d like. If not, you’ll have to settle for a smartphone or other game, but honestly, it’s not the same as the classic handheld pet. Just remember, Tamagotchi is making a comeback, so get excited about the possibilities.

Currently there only avaliable for $18 on Amazon Japan. In the US they have been seen selling for as much as $120 on Amazon
